What is Progress Monitoring?

Progress monitoring is the ongoing practice of measuring a student's academic growth at regular intervals — and using that data to make smarter decisions about how they're tutored. Rather than waiting until an exam or report card to find out how a student is doing, progress monitoring gives parents and tutors a clear, real-time picture of what's working, what isn't, and what needs to change.

At Luminary Tutoring, progress monitoring is built into every programme we offer — from weekly after-school academic support to intensive SHSAT and SAT test prep.

Data-Driven Tutoring

Most tutoring is reactive. A student struggles with a concept, the tutor explains it, and they move on. At Luminary Tutoring, we take a different approach — one built on data, not intuition. Every session, every practice test, and every assignment generates information we use to make the next session more effective than the last.

Data-driven tutoring means your child is never spending time reviewing material they've already mastered, and never skipping over the gaps that are quietly holding their performance back.

A Smarter Approach to Academic Enrichment

For students in our ongoing academic support programmes, data-driven tutoring starts with a baseline assessment across the subjects being covered — Math, English Language Arts, Science, Writing, or any combination. From there, every session is guided by what the data says, not what a generic curriculum assumes. When a student's performance in a particular skill area stalls, we catch it early and respond immediately. When they accelerate ahead of expectations, we move with them. The result is a program that is always calibrated to exactly where your child is — not where a textbook assumes they should be.
