SHSAT Prep Tutoring

The SHSAT is a single test that determines admission to New York City's specialized high schools, and for many families it's the most important exam their child will take before college. Why the SHSAT Is Different

Unlike a typical school test, the SHSAT rewards pacing, pattern recognition, and comfort under time pressure as much as subject knowledge. Students need repeated exposure to the test's exact question types — including scrambled paragraphs, logical reasoning, and multi-step math word problems — well before test day.

 

What Our SHSAT Program Covers

• Math: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability, and the multi-step word problems that make up the bulk of the exam • English Language Arts: reading comprehension, revising/editing passages, and logical reasoning questions

• Full-length timed practice exams with detailed score breakdowns

• Test-day pacing and strategy, including when to skip and return to a question

 

Our Approach

Every student begins with a free diagnostic assessment so we know exactly which question types need the most attention. From there, we build a personalized study plan and adjust it weekly based on practice test data, with progress reports sent directly to parents.

 

Who We Work With

We tutor 6th, 7th, and 8th graders preparing for their first attempt, as well as 8th graders retesting in the fall. Sessions are available in-person across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, or online.
